Love Is

What if you told me
a thing i couldn't
Stand
to hear?

What if you appeared
pock-marked
or
unappealing
or deficient somehow?

What if you asked
for a
handout?

What if you didn't
but I could tell
you needed one
anyway?

Would I still love you then?

If someone says "I love God,"
and hates his brother, he
is a liar; for he who does
not love his brother whom
he has seen, how can he
love God whom he has not
seen? - 1 John 4:20

How can I love you
and not
those I can see?

I used to think
it was
Easy.
(You are my every
imaginary
   dream
        fulfilled.
They are not.)

But now,
I wonder
how well would I love you
if I could?
